Let’s Recap! U District Studio Minis in Seattle, WA

I kicked off the 2022 year with a day of mini sessions in Washington state and oh was it so much fun! You may not know, but I’m a Washington state native. Born and raised in Edmonds, WA, I moved out to Nashville, TN in 2013 where I studied at Belmont University and loved it so much I stayed. Now married, both sides of my family still live in WA so when we visit I love planning mini sessions to keep serving my clients in the great Northwest!

I found this cute, light, minimalist studio nestled in the streets of U District, downtown Seattle through a venue rental site that I love to use called Peerspace! It makes finding a great location for whatever you’re looking for such a smooth experience. Many people know about AVVAY but I actually prefer Peerspace. Their web design is way more user friendly and they have an App for convenience, I also think they have more locations available which is really important to me. Stormy was an amazing host at Studio 220 and I could keep singing her praises about my experience with her space but let’s talk about these minis!!

This day was packed with 9 mini sessions, each 15 minutes long. A day full of families, brand headshots and couples! Singing, dancing, laughing and enjoying the presence of your loved ones, what a fun time for all. Some of my favorite moments were watching two brothers outdo one another in a hug, laughing as we took pictures knowing no one will know this baby just had a blow out in his photoshoot outfit (you know who you are, hehe!) and seeing the sweet baby rolls and wrinkles of all the babies that came by.

I told Katie (pictured above) that she needs to write a book because these headshots have book author written all over them! I loved her style, especially how she rocked a cute while ankle boot with her looks.

What truly makes a day of minis successful is the valiant effort by all of my clients to arrive on time. If you’ve never done a mini session with me before, I’ll tell you, I encourage everyone to arrive 10 minutes before your session time. The schedule is so tight and we only have 15 minutes, so if you are 10 minutes late that means we really only have 5 minutes to shoot before I need to respect my next client’s timeframe. I cannot stress enough how important it is to be on time and so far, I can honestly say ALL my clients have been rockstars about timeliness. I am so, so thankful!

The reason I chose a minimalist white and airy studio setting for this day of minis is because it is so versatile! It can be for whatever you want! Updating family photos for a gallery wall in your home, headshots for building your brand, adorable engagement photos, newborn family photos, even boudoir! Since my trips to WA are not always planned for the same times of the year, you never really know when I’ll be visiting next and for what purpose your photoshoot might serve.

I love mini days because I get the privilege to meet new people in addition to connecting with my returning clients and friends. Most of my business comes from word-of-mouth referrals, and mini days are an awesome way for me to connect with new people who might be interested in my work. To that I want to say thank you to everyone who has ever referred me, it is much appreciated!

I also love the variety that mini days offer as far as content. I get to photograph so many different types of people for different types of sessions in such a short amount of time, and it really helps me to fine-tune my photography skills.

Oh also, did I mention I shot these back to back sessions while being 6 months pregnant? Call me crazy, but I am so grateful to do meaningful work that keeps me moving and on my feet and I’ll do it as long as I possibly can while pregnant. Mini days are quite the marathons though. It’s no lie it took a lot out of me and I definitely put my feet up when I got back but if these pictures don’t say how worth it, it was then I don’t know what to tell you, friend! I love what I do.

I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek into my recent U District studio minis in Seattle, WA!
