Let’s Recap! 2021’s Christmas Tree Farm Minis

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and who doesn’t love Christmas tree photos? I was so excited to see my Christmas Tree Farm Mini Day fill up quickly, so much so that I decided to make this an annual thing based off interest alone! In reflection too, the day was fast-paced, fun, and a huge success going off of my goals I had set for the day. I hoped to remain decently on schedule, have no crying kids, and to leave feeling inspired to edit the photos I took. All things that were accomplished! Families were on time, kids were in good spirits and I felt confident in the product of photos I took under the pressure of a time crunch.

This gorgeous lush green is brought to you by Christmas Tree Adventures, a farm located in Hendersonville, TN. They were absolutely great to work with. Something awesome that they offer is opening their farm to photographers just before their season begins so we can have the place all to ourselves or with a very limited number of other photographers. No photo bombing and fewer distractions for our photos, yay!

My families all had such cute style! Some took a classic red and green Christmas themed approach while others went for their own twist of caramels and creams or blues and grays. I don’t consider myself an expert on fashion choices by any means, but it is really fun for me when clients ask my opinion or help with coordinating their outfits. I’m able to share what works best for the camera, what looks flattering on different body types and what will compliment the scenery we chose. It’s important to me that you feel as good as you look though so I’ll never tell you to do anything crazy just for the shoot. If you aren’t comfortable, it shows on your face and the last thing we want are fake smiles, am I right?

I loved how many families brought their dogs! Their fur babies. And they were all so photogenic and fun. I mean, look at how the pups jumped up into the wagon, so cute! Just so you know, dogs are always welcome for photoshoots with me.

Each session was unique in that each family followed different poses with my direction and used different props creatively. Whether cozying up with a blanket, sitting down, running around, using the red wagon and more, the day was filled with variety and inspiration. And on top of that, I love seeing the character and dynamics of each family add their own spice to the sessions as well.

This holiday season I learned that while many families (myself included) continue to send printed Christmas cards out in the mail, some have started sending digital greetings. Sharing a picture from our photoshoot with some graphic design overlay of a simple holiday greeting. Love this idea! And I can help you design something if you’re in need of graphic designing services, my husband Bryson helps out on projects like that for me.

Even though these sessions were a quick 20 minutes, it’s amazing how much we got accomplished. I had roughly 200 photos from each session to choose from! One thing I always do to help sessions with young kids be successful, is limit the number of “asks”. We ask kids to smile, smile, smile in photoshoots and it can really drain their listening and good behavior tanks. So when they’re not the focus of the photo, I tell them to be free! I take off the restrictions and let them play! This prolongs the good moods and helps the rest of our time remain fun.

My last family was a pleasant surprise! As it turns out, they had some difficulty before their session time, so they were the only ones that were late arriving. Luckily they were the last to go so it didn’t interfere with the schedule but at that point we were worried about not having enough light being past sunset. We were all nervous that it’d be too dark but to all our surprise I think, it actually made for a beautiful, moody and earthy look. A happy accident I’d say!

Overall 2021 Christmas Tree Farm Minis were a huge success! I’ll be hosting a day of Christmas minis on the tree farm again AND doing another day of minis studio-style for the holidays at the beginning of November, 2022. Hope to see you there!
